Peggy's October birthday meeting

Recently we met at my (Cindy's) house, and it was Peggy's birthday month. She had requested poetry-themed creations from us. This elegant piece is an embellished handkerchief, from Joanell. I didn't copy down the beautiful poem - maybe one of you can add it to the post.
(joanell's poem taken from the side of a building on her Wyoming trip : Put your ear to the sky and listen my darling, Everything whispers I Love You.)

I made this mini-quilt and called it "Cat Doggerel." I figured Peggy needed another cat in her house. I stenciled words that rhyme with cat -and there's a sneaky rat on the left side.

Stacy made this beautiful green mini-quilt. She put one of her birds on it, as well as a poem. I hope someone will post the words to the poem here.  (for 'dee tail' shots go here: )
(Stacy's Haiku (found online) for Peggy: A Meadowlark's call :  amid a flurry of leaves : The woodpath turns.)

Vickie made a lovely cat mini-quilt. Lucky Peggy! I made an apple-cranberry pie for us to celebrate her birthday, and I regret that I didn't take a photo of it, and I also forgot to ask people if I should make coffee to go with it. Darn, I had my little coffee maker out and everything.

Vickie also brought a wonderful prayer flag for me, because she missed the August meeting. The theme is "Time 2 Shine." She used these cool rhinestones for the lettering that I hadn't seen before. Thanks, Vickie!

Happy Birthday Cindy!

Cindy's Birthday theme was Prayer Flags

The first one was made by Peggy and it's message was 'water'

The one above is Miss Joanell's.  It's message;  Peace

Stacy's flag was 'Renew'

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CINDY!

Our Birthday Treat desert was fresh fruit and berries over Greek yogurt flavored hone & strawberry.
YUM!

June Meeting, with a birthday!

Peggy made this adorable mini art quilt. Love the curly whiskers.
This month we met at Joanell's house, and it was especially fun because we were celebrating Stacy's birthday! This was something we recently decided to do, celebrate bdays with homemade, artful gifts. Stacy requested cats and/or birds.
Stacy's cuddling with the cat made by me (Cindy). It's similar to the cats in my "Dos Gatos Primitivos" quilt, but free standing and appliqued onto a recycled sweater.
Joanell made a clever journal with a handstitched cover. The photo doesn't do it justice, but besides the cat and bird it says "WTF."
Vickie made a wonderful necklace out of door pulls. Can't see it in this photo. I'm hoping others took better photos than I did!

For the grand finale, Joanell,Tom and Peggy did a rousing rendition of "Runaway," with ukuleles and singing. They made it look like such fun!  Joanell was a trooper, hosting this fun gathering despite her broken wrist. Thanks Joanell!

The Prayer Flag Project

There is also a link at the right.  To join, simply click the above button (feel free to copy and paste it to your own blogs as well). Here is a snapshot of the flag I did.

So I thought I would do something fun!
I am a huge Doctor Who fan
and my prayer flag reflects that!
I hand painted the TARDIS (the ship The Doctor travels around in) and wrote in with a white jelly roll pen the small text.
The larger text was done with a brush.  All FW Acrylic inks but after they heat set they are permanent.
This size is approx 20"H by 17" W which is much greater than the size given in the project but that's because I made mine for an iron garden stand I already had.

April 2012 Gathering

We met at Vickies darling home and she presented us with this

Since my camera phone completely washed out the white coconut cake, here's  a better shot of the top

There was much to celebrate!

Both Cindy and joanell had pieces accepted into 'Rituals'
to debut at the Long Beach Quilt Festival in July.

Cindy's:

Photobooth Hijinks

Joanell's:
Flowers in my hair and expectations

Stacy had a piece selected into the Santa Monica Hangar Gallery Show (opens May 19) and her
work was chosen for the postcard

"Ode to Joyce"

So we celebrated with dinner, had our show and share, did our 5 minute sketches and had desert!
We wandered out into the night around 10pm to make our way home.

A fine evening full of inspiration!

A great big Thank You to Vickie for opening her home to us
(well, most of it-LOL)

And Mr. Bleu who is still looking for that Bunny!
